University Women of Distinction Awards Program

Each year, University Women's Professional Advancement seeks nominations of outstanding women for University Women of Distinction Awards. These awards are presented annually to several exceptional women: faculty, administrative/professionals, and civil service staff.

The University Women of Distinction Awards recognize campus women who, during their time at SIUC, have demonstrated a sustained commitment to women and/or issues of diversity.  Commitment is defined as demonstrated leadership, vision, and action in their profession, or area of expertise, as well as in service to the university or community.

Eligibility:  Any woman employed for at least 10 years at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale is eligible for this award.  Those who have previously received the award are exempt from consideration.  (The list of past recipients is posted at www.success.siu.edu/uwpa/)

Nominations:  Nominations are accepted from any individual or group within the University. A nomination packet must include: (1) a letter of nomination that provides a clear description of those activities and contributions for which the recognition is being recommended; (2) letters of support from two other individuals; (3) nominee’s current resume; and (4) the completed UWPA nomination form. See http://www.success.siu.edu/uwpa/awards.html for the nomination form.

There will be three categories of awards:  administrative/professional, faculty, and civil service.  No more than one award will be made in any category each year.  If there are no qualified candidates in one or all categories, the award need not be given that year.  The awards will be presented at the UWPA Women of Distinction reception in April, 2008.

Nominations are due February 15, 2008.  Please call 453-1366 or e-mail uwpa@siu.edu with any questions.
