Mission Statement:
Since 1988 UWPA has worked to enhance opportunities for the professional development and advancement of women faculty and staff at SIUC, thus contributing to the University’s overall effectiveness and progress.
Ethos: Women are:

*A powerful entity whose contributions must be sought, respected, and acted upon

UWPA Programming:
UWPA programming is developed under the guidance of our constituency-based advisory group.
*University Women of Distinction Awards
The purpose of these annual awards is to recognize campus women who have
demonstrated a sustained commitment to women and/or diversity through their leadership, vision, activities, or service.
*Administrative Internship Program
The Administrative Internship Program is specifically intended to enhance career development opportunities for women SIUC employees who have the potential to succeed in administrative positions.
*Civil Service ConnectionS (CSC)
CSC is a network of groups of women civil service personnel. The purpose of CSC is to encourage personal growth and professional development of civil service women. In each group women share ideas with each other, explore different problem solving perspectives, and establish bonds, using a facilitated small group process.
*Professional Workshops/Forums on Key Issues
Recent topics include: “Women and Investments,” and “Presenting Presentable Presentations.”
*Travel Awards
Faculty, administrative/professional and civil service women are eligible to receive travel support to attend conferences or professional trainings.
*Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity Grants (joint with Women’s Studies)
This competitive Grants program provides funds to women assistant professors each year for scholarly activities.
*Advocacy
UWPA works with concerned individuals on campus to review, research and make recommendations regarding SIUC policy that effects women.
