Goals
CAS strives to:
- Target select and talented students who need a support system so they can realize their full academic potential at SIUC.
- Create a personal and individual support network that eases and guides our students through the transition from high school to college.
- Enable and empower students to set and achieve academic, personal, and social goals.
Our program goes even further to specifically
focus on:
- Meeting the academic, personal, and social needs of students.
- Providing a balanced, strong, and supportive start.
- Creating conditions in which students can successfully meet the necessary requirements to continue and complete the academic program and succeed in additional degree work and/or in a job or career.
- Overcoming the potential dropout rate for talented and able students who otherwise might not pursue higher education or who become “lost” in a university setting.
- Providing both academic and social support and including specific goals for students.
By the end of the first year, our students
should:
- Develop improved learning and problem-solving skills.
- Understand and develop viable educational goals.
- Work to overcome and correct academic deficiencies.
- Demonstrate command of the university environment.
- Feel more confident about themselves as students.
Key features of the CAS approach include:
- An achievement-oriented, non-remedial
approach
- Integration of academic/study skills
into the curriculum.
- A collaborative approach in which
personnel serve as a “team” with each student.
